THE GAUGED SKIRT
A basic skirt pattern that can
be used for everything from a camp skirt to a ballgown bottom. The skirt
is designed to be pleated in the front and gauged in the back. Gauging
(Cartridge pleating) was the method of choice for the Women of the Era
to gather the fabric into the waistband. The waistband utilizes double

tailored look, but can be softened with the addition of the optional

bottoms. The skirt uses gored panels and either gathering or pleating at

SPLIT SKIRT WITH RUFFLED UNDERSKIRT
This pattern is for a skirt that
creates the look of an overskirt and ruffled underskirt, without the
expense and extensive fabric required for a completely flounced
underskirt. This skirt is very versatile. The split opening can be worn
to either the front or the back. Instructions are included for 3”, 4”
and 6” ruffles as well as trim options to use with or without the
ruffle. The underskirt can be made in three ruffled tiers or in flour

SCALLOPED OVERSKIRT
Overskirts can be worn with many styles of gowns from
day dresses to ball gowns. The second skirt can be used to extend the
life and look of a current outfit or to hide a tear or stain in an
otherwise perfect garment.
As a ballgown overskirt, this skirt helps to extend the principle of
making a very basic ball gown and then adding options such as skirts,
berthas, and different sleeves over time to change the look of your gown
and increase the occasions to which it may be worn. The addition of
bows, floral clusters, ribbons or tabs at the scallops will also change
this look.

PELERINE CLOAK
A cloak is a must for all re-enactors. This is not your
usual cloak pattern. This cloak offers an alternative to the plain,
straight hemmed cloaks that are seen at all re-enactments. This pattern
is for a cloak with an attached Pelerine or small cape at the neck. This
cloak has angular lines which fall to a point in the center back. The
pattern can be made with or without a pleated ruffle around the
pelerine. This cloak is mid-length.

SUMMER CAPELLETTE
The name for this garment comes from Le Beau Monde, a
French magazine, popular at the time. The Spring 1862 edition described
a “summer capellette made of silk or gauze” that would “make a
delightful addition to every young ladies wardrobe.” This pattern is for
a very lightweight unlined cape, that is meant to be trimmed with lace
or ruffles. The capellette gets its light airy qualities from your
choice of fabric and trims.

SIMPLE MANTLE
This pattern is for a very basic mantle, which is perfect
for those cooler days and evenings, when a full cloak or cape is not
required. The warmth of this garment will depend on your choice of
materials. Wools, heavy cottons, flannels, fleeces or blends will work
well.
