Chemisettes

The main purpose of this item was to protect your outer garments from the body soils and stains.  Chemisettes had a very specific purpose but they all serve to help you achieve the look of the period.  All our items are made with 100% cotton and where used cotton laces and trims.  White was the common color as it showed that you were a good housekeeper and could maintain white items, but we also offer most items in cream and black as well.

A chemisette is basically a btton front “dickie”.  These garments were used to help fill in the neckline of dresses with a square or lower neckline, allowing the wearer to extend the purposes of her garments.   A great consideration is that the chemisette can be easily changed, freshening up an outfit.  Chemisettes were worn under bodices to give the illusion of a body underneath. For this reason many are purchased in sets with sleeve jockeys trimmed in the same style. 

Our chemisette has 2 rows of pin-tucking down each side of the button placket front.  The drawstring from the back is meant to come around and tie in the front, thus keeping the back secure.  We offer two collar styles:  a simple stand-up collar and a round fold-over style.  Lace may be added to the collar for an additional charge.
