A basic unlined sack coat, that can be made in either the union military or a civilian style. The coat is styled so that it hangs loosely off the shoulders and falls straight to about mid-hip which allows for easy body movements making it the perfect jacket for growing boys. During the Civil War, boys liked to dress in uniforms as a show of patriotism. The military version of this sack coat allows mothers to make a jacket, just like the union soldiers. For civilian purpose, the same jacket can be made without the inside pocket. Many CDV’s exist showing young lads dressed in sack coats. Some were of coarser material and meant for work clothing, others were of a finer weight wool and meant for casual dress. Available in two size groups: 4-8 and 10-14.
