Not only did Queen Victoria lend her name to the Victorian Era, but she influenced much of the fashions of the 1800’s. Many of these influences can be traced back to her love for Balmoral Castle in Scotland. This gave rise to many of the Scottish style caps that were shown in the periodicals. This pattern is for two styles of Scottish Caps: GLENGARRY: This is the more “military” of the two styles and is based on a military Glengarry. The sides of the body are deeper and the back is not closed, allowing the cap to lay flatter on the head. SCOTTISH CAP: This is a more feminine style, with a taller body and a closed back. This allows the cap to sit on top of the head over some of the taller hairstyles. If you wear your hair in a hairnet, you may want to consider the larger size, to accommodate the hair. Instructions are included for both styles of caps in multiple sizes and trim options such as cockades, rosettes and flat bows.
