This simple day cap is made of 100% clear cotton muslin and trimmed around the face edge with a gathered ruffle of the same fabric. This is a soft light-weight cap that is easy to wear and offers a great way to complete your period look. The cap is available with white or your choice of colored decorative ribbons. (Please state your preference in the comments). The cap is worn with the simple narrow ties, tied in a bow under the chin. These ties can also be tied under the hair at the back of the head. I have included pictures of women from the 1840's and 50's wearing these caps.

While commonly worn in both the 1840's and 50's, this cap was also used as a morning and utilitarian cap into the early 1960's. It is the perfect cap for those who present a lower and middle class, rural and domestic personas. These caps belong to a category of cap known as a "flat cap" because they lay flat when not worn and had no shaping in the body. The cap is easily stored and can be laundered.

Godey's Lady's Book talks about similar caps in November 1858: Lace morning cap whose frill is very gently gathered. Its front edge is turned back over a colored ribbon and tacked in place. A bow accents the right side.
