This detachable bib front shirt was also known as a firemans shirt. The red shirt is perfect for both Zouave and artillery re-enactors. It is shown in red but also available in navy blue which was worn by the cavalry in the 1870's.
A shirt suitable for men and boys -- for both military and civilian wear extending from the early 1800’s—1900. Bib front shirts were very popular with those that worked around flame or sparks as the bib added an extra layer of protection.
This pull-over shirt has a button front placket and a fold-over collar. Use of a placket front has been around for centuries. The placket reinforces the front opening of the shirt, making it more durable. and giving a foundation on which the button and buttonholes are stitched. The sleeves feature a gusset underarm, dropped shoulders and a single button cuff. The button-on bib can be removed if desired. Our shirts are made with 100% solid cottons. We use metal or washable wooden buttons.
