This listing is for a two piece underpinning set of chemise and drawers suitable for most of the 1800’s. They are made with 100% clear white cotton muslin trimmed with hand crocheted lace.
CHEMISE: This chemise utilizes a band of hand-made lace at the neckline. This band allows the chemise to be worn either up on your shoulders (for day wear) or down off the shoulders so it will fit under the low necklines and sleeveless styling of many of the ball or evening gowns worn during the period. (See photos) This chemise also makes a wonderful, pretty nightgown for warm weather wear.
DRAWERS: Our split-crotch drawers are perfect for most of the 1800’s. Drawers, also known as pantaloons or pantalettes are an essential part of your underpinning wardrobe. They provide for modesty underneath those long skirts. Drawers are worn under everything else, so the split-crotch makes going to the “necessary” much easier.
These drawers were designed with comfort in mind. They are made of 100% clear white cotton muslin. They have a wide waistband and long drawstrings to allow for tying in the front. The lower edge is finished with hand crocheted cotton lace and ribbon to either leave the leg wide or draw it in to your calf. These drawers are meant to overlap in the back and the drawstring comes around and ties in the front. This helps the drawers stay overlapped in the back, so you do not get that “airy” feeling. It is also easier if you are tying your drawstrings where you can see them.
SIZING: To insure a good fit use the larger measurement from your waist or hips. The shoulders are measured around the shoulder with your arms at your side. I offer 4 ready-made sizes BUT will custom make to any measurement. REMEMBER: These are both built on a drawstring and very adjustable. Petite: Shoulders -34 inches; Waist/Hips – Up to 34 inches Small: Shoulders - 38 inches; Waist/Hips - Up to 36 inches Medium: Shoulders - 42 inches; Waist/ Hips - Up to 42 inches Large: Shoulders - 48 inches; Waist/Hips - Up to 48 inches
