The addition of these wonderful accessories can easily change the look of a simple skirt or dress. Period pictures and publications from the mid-1800’s show young ladies and children wearing all varieties of belts, sashes, and braces. These items served many purposes. The belts and sashes were used to accent the waistline of a young lady, and on a younger girl, to draw in a skirt that may have been otherwise too big. Braces and bretelles were not only used as a fashion accessory, but they served a useful purpose in helping to holdup the skirt or waist belt. The look of the accessories you create will only be limited by your creativity and imagination. This pattern is for a variety of these items. We offer a pointed and a curved belt style that can be closed using several methods, as well as some simple instructions for a straight belt. For braces we offer a simple over the shoulder brace, with some nice trim options. For bretelles we offer two styles, a tapered style and a shaped one. There are lots of trim ideas and suggestions included with each option.
