Civil War Nurse Accessory Set - Apron, Sleeve Protectors and Cotton collar with Optional Cap

This Accessory Set contains what you need to enhance a civil war nurse or other caregiver-type impression. The items are all made of 100% white clear cotton muslin. Each item has been thoughtfully designed with the movement and needs of the wearer in mind. These items go very well over our Day wrapper, which is listed separately. The dress is not included with the set.

APRON: The white pinner apron features two slit pockets and a tie back. The benefits of this style of pocket over the patch styling are the ability to carry weight without dragging down the pocket and the pockets do not catch on things as easily. It is also harder to see what is in the pocket. The skirt of the apron is 27 inches long with a 3 inch hem. Our aprons come with a pair of period correct safety pins called “fibulas”.

SLEEVES: The working sleeves were also known as sleeve protectors or guards. Working sleeves were a common item not only for nurses but for those that had to go about their daily duties in a dirty environment. The sleeves are meant to help protect the sleeves of your dress from soil and wear. They have a 1-inch wide cuff and are closed with mother-of-pearl buttons and a buttonhole. The top of the sleeve has a casing through which we have threaded an adjustable elastic. The elastic may be removed and drawstrings inserted if desired. Our working sleeves measure 7 inches from casing to cuff and the wrist opening is 8 inches and may be adjusted by moving the button.

COLLAR: Our new handmade cotton collar is designed to cover a round neckline. This collar is 2 inches wide and extends to 19 inches long with a simple curve at the center front. This collar later became known as a "Peter Pan" collar. A broach can be used to attach the collar to the dress at the front. There is a narrow bias band around the neckline of the collar which tucks into the neckline of the dress and can be used to either pin or baste the collar to your dress.

We offer two choices of caps. Both of the caps are soft and light-weight so that they are easy to wear and a great way to complete your look. Each offers a slightly different look. Cap A has an enclosed headband that can be removed if not desired. The headband is a wonderfully easy way to hold the cap onto your head. Both styles offer a simple easy way to hide short hair and modern hairstyles.

CAP A: Our simple pleated round or mob cap is made of 100% clear cotton muslin and trimmed around the face edge with a simple pleated ruffle of the same fabric. A metal headband is encased in the front band to safely and securely hold the cap on the head. This band can be removed for laundry or if not desired. The back of the cap is gathered to the neck to hold your hair. The ribbon encased gathering allows the cap to fit most head sizes.

CAP B: This round or day cap is made of 100% clear cotton muslin and trimmed around the face edge with a plain front band that folds back over the cap edge, giving the cap a simpler look. The back of the cap is gathered to the neck to hold your hair. The ribbon encased gathering allows the cap to fit most head sizes.
