This pretty drawstring reticule could be the perfect finishing touch to your mourning attire.  Our angular shaped reticule is made of your choice of brocade. It is lined with  cotton and has a pocket which is sized to slip your credit card or drivers license into. The purse closes using a satin drawstring, which slides through the casing well and is much easier on the hands than ribbon or other types of cording. It features a ruffled header at the top which helps to prevent items from slipping out. This reticule is embellished with two simple tassels at the points. It measures 11 inches, top to bottom and 7 1/2 inches through the widest part with an opening large enough to slip your hand into comfortably. The brocade used for this reticule may vary slightly from what is shown in the pictures. It is shown with a phone to give you an idea of the size. This phone is not included in the listing.

A reticule, also known as a ridicule or indispensable, was a type of small handbag or pouch, similar to a modern evening bag, used mainly from 1795 to 1920’s when the modern “purse” became popular. Originally they were used to contain small personal items and a few coins that the wearer might need as the garments of the Era did not contain pockets.

These reticules are perfect for all Eras from the Regency and Edwardian through the Civil War, across the frontier and into the early 1900’s. Many make a wonderful accessory to go with modern attire. And of course there is always the Christmas Fairs, Steam Punk, SASS and other costume events. For living history these bags are a great way for storing and carrying items that you want hidden from public view. Our reticules are designed from originals. Many examples of different styles are found all over the internet. It is truly a matter of personal preference as to the design and style that you choose.

This drawstring bag is appropriate for Civil War reenactments as well as 1800’s events such as Dickens, Christmas Fairs or wagon train (Prairie). It would also be a good item for workers or volunteers at historical sites.

If you are looking for a particular color or design to match an outfit or personal preference I am happy to create an item “just for you.” I also make reticules to match the bonnets and other accessories I sell in our store. Just ask….
