TSD-320 Bishops Dress, Infant - Toddler Dress DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

The perfect simple, easy to construct dress for all your infant -toddler needs. The loose flowing body and raglan styled sleeves allow for freedom of movement and growth of the child. The style is almost timeless, first appearing in the late 17th century and even today continues to be used. It is named “Bishop” because of the resemblance to the Bishops sleeve style of the English clergy. The length of the dress varied with the age of the child. Growth tucks were often included in the planning of the garment to allow for the growth of the child and instructions for these tucks is included, as well as two sleeve lengths.

This pattern is in two basic styles:

Style A: This is a high-necked version with closure at the center back.

Style B: This is a low-necked style with a drawstring around the neckline.

Fabric Requirements:
The amount of fabric required varies according to the length of the gown and the size chosen.
1 ½ yards 45” wide fabric will make most sizes of dress.
For tie closure or drawstring: ¼” wide double sided satin ribbon
For button closure: 1 3/8” mother of pearl or other washable button
 
Sizing:
Children grow rapidly at this age. It is suggested that you plan for this growth by allowing extra length in both the sleeves and the hem. The style of this dress allows for a large amount of growth through the body, before it becomes too tight. Many period photographs show children dressed in clothing too big or too small for them. It was also a fact of life that clothing was handed down from child to child. Do not be afraid to make this garment with plenty of room for growth! Pattern includes sizes for Infant (½T), 1T, 2T and 4T.
