If you don’t want a hoops skirt, but do want the shape of the Era, this petticoat is for you! Corded petticoats can be worn as an alternative to the hoop. Not only do they help to provide the shape so popular to the Era, without the hassle of hoop wires, they can prevent the skirts from getting caught up between the feet when you move and are much safer around fire or flame. Many women, who were dressing not “for fashion” but for service and day-to-day life, used corded petticoats. The ADULT corded petticoat has a bottom circumference of just under 90” makes it perfect for camp/ work or other styles of dress with a narrow hemline.
Corded petticoats are great for children and teens, providing the desired shape, as well as being machine washable. Moms who have had to deal with pulling and replacing hoop skirt wires, will appreciate this. A wonderful way to satisfy a girls want for fluff and puff.
Corded petticoats were not just worn during the mid-Victorian era but extend back through to Elizabethan times. The bands of cording helped control the skirts, making walking and movement much easier, so if you are recreating any point in the past and find your skirts in need of some assistance, the corded petticoat may be the answer. This skirt is also perfect for those working at Historical sites.
