Cream Lace Fanchon Styled DayCap with Peach Ribbon, Victorian
Cream Lace Fanchon Styled DayCap with Peach Ribbon, Victorian
This very elegant and lacy day cap is made of cream floral netted lace. The crown of the cap features a peach changeable folded ribbon accented with crystal glass beads, ending in ribbon bows. A 3 inch wide layer of lace lays across the crown behind the folded ribbon. A peach bow finishes the back of the cap. A metal headband, which is encased in the day cap, provides a comfortable and secure way to keep the cap on your head. The bottom half of the cap can be gathered to the neck to hold your hair or can be left looser for a softer look and allows the cap to fit most head sizes. This drawstring is edged with the same 3 inch wide lace. This is a soft light-weight cap that is easy to wear and offers a great way to complete your look. Unlike many of the day caps of the Era this cap can be worn two ways. It can sit on top of your finished coiffure and NOT to contain your hair OR the drawstring back can be used to contain your hair at the back. We try and keep the lace and ribbons "as shown" but in some cases they may vary slightly.
Day caps were worn by most married women for both morning and day wear. The social status and economic means dictating the fabrics and trims used. Many of the more elaborately trimmed caps were worn for evening wear as well.
Morning and dress caps are unusually pretty this season. They no longer resemble the old-fashioned cap, but are rather an elegant headdress." Godey's, August 1862
