TSB-121 Gathered Body (Blouse) - Guimpe Sewing Pattern, 19th Century, Civil War Era
A wonderful easy to make and fit gathered body called a “guimpe” (pronounced gimp). These bodies or as we know them today blouses, appeared in all the fashion magazines of the Era. They were worn under all types of garments, from open-necked dresses to Swiss bodies, vests and jackets. The blouse is designed in the peasant style, with diagonal armscye, similar to a modern raglan sleeve. It features gathers at the neckline and the cuffs and is closed at the center back with either a keyhole opening or buttons and buttonholes. It can be dressed up by adding a row of lace around the neck and cuffs.
