This pretty drawstring reticule could be the perfect finishing touch to your Period attire.
Our shield shaped reticule is made in your choice of 2 colors and black striped taffeta. It is lined with cotton and has a pocket which is sized to slip your credit card or driver's license into. The purse closes using a black satin drawstring, which slides through the casing well and is much easier on the hands than ribbon or other types of cording. It features a ruffled header at the top which helps to prevent items from slipping out. This reticule is embellished with black corded fringe and a black tassel. It measures 10 1/2 inches, top to bottom and 7 1/2 inches, through the widest part with an opening large enough to slip your hand into comfortably. A reticule, also known as a ridicule or indispensable, was a type of small handbag or pouch, similar to a modern evening bag, used mainly from 1795 to 1920’s when the modern “purse” became popular. Originally, they were used to contain small personal items and a few coins that the wearer might need as the garments of the Era did not contain pockets.

These reticules are perfect for all Eras from the Regency and Edwardian through the Civil War, across the frontier and into the early 1900’s. Many make a wonderful accessory to go with modern attire.
