Tired of the same old outfits?
Want a new look?
Have a little fabric left over from you latest outfit?
This is the pattern for you!
The addition of a round bertha to your outfit may just be the answer. Berthas were often used to update and extend a wardrobe. They did everything from cover a low neckline for day wear, to add warmth to a light bodice. Examination of period CDV's berthas as part of the outfit.
With the high cost and scarcity of fabrics during the civil war, berthas were very popular as they could change the look of an outfit with just a little fabric. This is a pattern for a reversible bertha with a self-fabric ruffle, although the bertha can be left plain or trimmed with braid or ribbons. It is designed to be worn over a bodice such as TSB-100 Basic Fitted Bodice and TSB-101 Gathered Bodice. Detachable collars were worn over the Bertha to complete your look. TSA-502 Chemisettes and Collars offer lots of detachable collar ideas or try a simple crocheted collar.
