TSO-405 Shoulder Cape Sewing Pattern, Cape Capelet Pattern

TSO-405 Shoulder Cape Pattern is for a wonderfully versatile shoulder cape. At 14 inches in length, it is perfect to cover the shoulders, but keep the hands free. This cape can be made out of a warm fabric such as wool and used as an additional layer to keep the evening chill off. When made of fancy fabrics such as velvet, taffeta or satin it makes the perfect accessory to complete a ball gown. The lightweight fabric will provide covering for a low neckline but not crush any trim or embellishments that may be on the ball gown bodice. When made with the same or a companion fabric to a skirt, this simple cape can be used to complete a nice basic-wear outfit. It makes a great wardrobe extender. This pattern also makes a great Childs’ cape!!!!

Trims:
The final look of this cape is totally dependent on the choice of trims used. Our sample uses a simple ruffle made of the lining fabric, but anything from a purchased bead fringe to a round of gimp braid will work. The cape is designed to have some form of trim around the lower edge. A plain cape can be accented with braid or Soutache. Folded or ruffled ribbons such as grosgrain or satin will also add a nice touch. Self-fabric or contrasting fabric (such as the lining fabric) trims were always popular, as trims were expensive and many women could not afford the extra cost, so they created decorations from scrapes they had at home. The front closure can be ties, hook and eye, button and loop or a braid frog. Care should be taken when choosing your trims to try to choose those that would be appropriate to the Era.
 
Pattern Requirements:
Outer layer: 2/3 yd 60” wide fabric or 1 yard 45” wide fabric
Lining: similar amount
Optional Ruffle: 2/3 yd 45” wide (20 inches)
Trim: The lower edge is 120” in circumference, so if you want a braid, ribbon or trim around this edge you will need that amount.

Sizing:
The cape is a one size fits most garment, suitable for girls and ladies.
