Sleeve Protectors, Working sleeves, Sleeve Guards - Womens and Mens
Many vintage photographs show workmen and storekeepers of all sorts as well as nurses and domestics with short half sleeves worn on their arms. Working sleeves, sleeve protectors or guards as they were also known were worn by both men and women as protection over their shirt or dress sleeves to save them from getting dirty and worn. Women and domestics wore them around the house while cleaning.
We offer two styles of sleeves:
LADIES: Our Ladies' sleeves have a 1-inch wide cuff and are closed with mother-of-pearl buttons and a buttonhole. The top of the sleeve has a casing through which we have threaded an adjustable elastic. The elastic may be removed and drawstrings inserted if desired. Ladies' sleeves measure 7 inches from casing to cuff and the wrist opening is 8 inches and may be adjusted by moving the button. They were usually white but are also available in black.
MENS: They have a 2-inch wide cuff and are closed with metal buttons and a buttonhole. The top of the sleeve has a casing through which we have threaded an adjustable elastic. The elastic may be removed and drawstrings inserted if desired. Men's sleeves measure 9 inches from casing to cuff and the wrist opening is 10 inches and may be adjusted by moving the button. Men's sleeves were usually black but are also available in white.
Our sleeves are 100% clear cotton. The set can be machine washed in cool to warm water. The white can be bleached if necessary BUT should be hung to dry.
